The Network of Canadian Workplace Investigators (NCWI) is an informal group interested in topics related to workplace investigations in Canada. Its goal is to provide information in the field about diverse aspects of workplace investigation practices in Canada. This includes updates on tribunals and cases, legislative announcements, practical advice, hypothetical scenarios, events/conferences, and more.

By subscribing to the NCWI listserv, individuals join an informal community united by a shared interest in workplace investigations in Canada. This listserv is intended to be a respectful platform for exchanging information and updates in a relaxed manner. Subscribers are encouraged to share pertinent information and actively participate in discussions related to mutual interests, thereby fostering a sense of community among members.
Who May and May Not Post
Only subscribers of the NCWI listserv are permitted to post messages. Subscribers take sole responsibility and accountability for the content of their messages. They acknowledge that neither the NCWI listserv nor any other party is relied upon to monitor, edit, or control messages sent or received through the listserv. Messages are shared instantly to all members.
Subscribers Listed Online
Subscribers agree to be identified on the Network of Canadian Workplace Investigators website by name, title, and affiliation. Subscribers can choose to include or not include a hyperlink to their professional page with their name.
Refraining from Discussing Posts and Responses Outside of the Listserv
Due to the collaborative and focused nature of the listserv, posts and responses from the NCWI listserv should not be discussed outside of the listserv. Opinions and comments shared within the listserv are intended for internal dialogue and should not be construed as public statements for broader analysis or discussion. It is discouraged to quote or circulate listserv postings without permission. Subscribers are kindly requested not to share listserv discussions with individuals outside the listserv without appropriate consent.
What Can Be Posted
All discussions on the NCWI listserv should be confined to topics related to workplace investigations in Canada. Listserv posts and responses should reflect NCWI’s goals to:
- Share and read about Canadian news related to workplace investigations, including legislative changes, tribunal decisions, and case law updates.
- Engage in discussions on best practices, ethical considerations, and practical advice.
- Explore hypothetical scenarios to sharpen your investigative skills and exchange insights with peers.
- Organize conferences and events on workplace investigations in Canada.
- Create a community of interest and a platform for mutual support and social interaction for those interested in workplace investigations.
- Encourage the study, development, and implementation of fair workplace investigations.
For further clarity, the following are examples of topics that should not be posted or discussed on the listserv:
- Discussions about legal developments, current events, or political issues without clear links to workplace investigations.
- Harassing, intimidating, or disrespectful posts. Subscribers must refrain from statements that have the potential to intimidate others or to promote discrimination, hatred, violence or illegal activity. Messages that are libelous, defamatory, threatening, fraudulent, or otherwise unlawful are also prohibited.
- Posts which proactively advertise legal services or products.
- Posts which request or offer legal advice.
Responses to Inappropriate Posts or Conduct in Relation to the Listserv
Posts to the listserv are not screened before reaching all subscribers. In the event of inappropriate posts or misconduct related to the listserv, Prof. Malone may take the following actions if deemed necessary:
- Suggest to a subscriber that their posts are inappropriate for the listserv;
- Temporarily remove a subscriber from the listserv; and/or
- Permanently remove a subscriber from the listserv.
